On Second Thought, I Might Have Overestimated My Readiness…

Wow…  It’s been a long long time since i’ve written anything on this little guy…  i’ve neglected my journaling, and i’ve neglected my readers… all two of you.  The truth of the matter is that i really haven’t known where to start.  i mean, it’s been such a long time since i wrote anything on this thing, and my last entry was a cop-out Flashback post.  So much has happened in the ensuing (almost) year that one entry really isn’t going to cover it.  But since this is my first entry back after such a long time, i’ll keep things relatively light for now.

Over the past couple of months i’ve let my diet and exercise plan fall through the cracks a bit.  i’ve only gained about 10 pounds from where i was when i stopped (which is much less than the 70ish that i lost), but i still need to get back with the program.  So i’ve started eating a little bit healthier, and today i took my first serious walk in about 5 or 6 months.  Did i start small, just go around the block and call it a day?  Shit, no!  Go big or go home, right?  So i decided to walk from my house to Books A Million in the Branson Hills area, where i could get a coffee and hook up to the WiFi with my brand new Surface.  (i got a new Surface, BTW… for fuckin’ free!  More on that later…)  It was about 10 degrees cooler today than it has been the rest of the week, and there was a really nice breeze, so i figured it would be a pretty nice walk (unfortunately, or fortunately, as it means the Earth still sustains life, the sun is still pretty fucking hot).

i estimated the amount of time it would take going up 248 to the Branson Hills entrance near the Rec Plex to be about an hour (30 minutes to the Branson Hills area, then 30 more minutes to BAM).  To be fair, i only underestimated that by about 20 minutes.  (Almost exactly 20 minutes, oddly…)  But that 20 minutes made quite a difference as i trudged my way across the barren wastes of the Wal-Mart parking lot after that last big uphill push. It was definitely a little bit too audacious for a first walk, but i did it.  After 80 minutes and about 4.5 miles, i finally walked into Books A Million, ordered an iced coffee and collapsed into a café chair.

Bloody hell.

Though i am thinking about trying it again from a different, shorter route in the future.  Yes, i am a masochist…  🙂
